Mascot Background
Leadbeater's Possum is a nocturnal, herbivorous marsupial (mammal with pouch) that is native to a remote region in Victoria, Australia, particularly in the forest highlands around the altitudes of 500-1500m. It was announced back in 1971 as the Victorian Faunal Emblem. These possums rely on hollowed dead or decaying trees, where small colonies of up to 12 will sleep together. They are also known as 'forest fairies' as they flit and dart across the tree tops at night searching for food.
